Meet Your School Counselor, Mrs. Sparks
Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Nichole Sparks, and I am thrilled to be the counselor at Lawton Elementary and Middle School. This is going to be a fun year filled with learning, growing, and lots of new adventures. I cannot wait to get to know you, your family, and most importantly your child! I will be spending my time at Lawton Elementary on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Friday Mornings and at Lawton Middle on Mondays, Thursdays, and Friday Afternoons.
I am so excited to get started. There are many ways students can come talk with me. Students can be referred by their teacher or a staff member, by you as their parent/guardian, or they can they come to speak with me on their own. Topics your child may want to talk about include, but are not limited to, the feelings they are experiencing, difficulty making or getting along with friends, academic struggles, fears or worries, problems they are experiencing in school, family concerns, and if someone moves away or dies, etc.
Everything your child and I talk about will be kept confidential unless there is a threat of harm or danger to your child or another. As their parent/guardian, you are legally allowed to know what your child and I talk about; however it is important that in order to maintain trust, your child’s privacy is respected. Please know that with respect to your child’s safety, I will notify you of any immediate concerns. I am mandated by law to report any suspected child abuse/neglect. Along with yours, my first priority is your child’s safety and I will work with you to the best of my ability to help achieve this goal together. If you have any further questions regarding this, please feel free to ask at any time.
I am available to meet with all students. Students may meet me individually or in small groups. I also may visit your child’s classroom on occasion. I meet with staff, parents, and other professionals to share ideas to best support students in the school environment. I am currently a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor seeking my professional license. In order to reach this goal, I meet with a Licensed Professional where we talk about general cases to best support students. During this meeting any child’s name or identifying information is not shared to maintain confidentiality. If you would like to view my Professional Disclosure Statement, which describes my educational and professional experience, how records are kept, and when I may need to break confidentiality, please let me know. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to contact me, or make an appointment. My door is always open!

In my world there are NO BAD KIDS, just impressionable conflicted young people wrestling with emotions & impulses trying to communicate their feelings & needs the only way they know how. - Janet Lonsbury
